Who I Am
Your Fitness Mentor
Hi, my name is Nathan, and I want my story to inspire others, but I am not some sort of super human. I don’t workout several hours a day. I am just a regular guy who has found the power of habit and regular goal setting to achieve successful health and wellness. I have overcome obesity and am able to manage my Lyme Disease through proper planning and regular exercise. By setting goals, and sometimes they are very small goals, I achieved my ultimate success of losing weight and becoming a healthy individual.
How did I do it? I didn’t think one day, “I am going to lose 100 pounds and become a personal trainer.” Yet that is exactly where life has taken me because I did have a goal to lose weight and it started with just losing 5 pounds to reverse the overweight direction I was going. After that, I wanted to become a Personal Trainer so I could show others how a goal can be accomplished. For me, it all started with one conversation that made me think about my long term health and future. That conversation with my doctor ended up inspiring me into a person who has those same types of conversations with other people (my clients). Conversations that motivate and empower individuals to take back the control of their life and their health and wellness. Vocalizing goals has always motivated me to be honest with myself and the people with whom I shared my desires, so I can’t wait to work with people who are inspired to achieve ultimate health and wellness like I did. I strive to inspire those around me to be more active and take control of their health.
Coaching for me has become a passion. After completing the NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) Certified Personal Trainer, I quickly enrolled in NASM's Corrective Exercise Specialization, these two programs from this institution have been the cornerstone of my programming. While I have adapted other aspects of training, we do follow the OPT model (Optimum Performance Training model). Other education includes Certified Kettlebell Instructor CK1, USA Track and Field LVL 1, ACE (American Council on Exercise) Fitness Nutrition Specialist.

FAQ's About Me
What inspired you to follow fitness as a career path?
When I was 17 years old I decided I no longer wanted to be at a high risk for metabolic diseases. My family doctor told me I was going to have diabetes at a young age if I didn’t do something soon to improve my health. This news from my doctor scared me into thinking about how my health was spiraling in the wrong direction. In fact, I could see myself being overweight and sick through the lenses of my family because many of which are overweight and struggle with various health issues. Once I learned some behavioral change techniques, and found ways to enjoy exercise, I knew I needed to help others do the same thing I did. Over the course of my senior year in high school, I lost 83 pounds! That summer I was set on getting to the 100 pound mark, which I was able to achieve. It has since been my mission to help others pursue changes in themselves that they visualize for complete health success.
How has fitness helped you in your personal development throughout life?
Fitness has helped me in my personal development by giving me a place to set aside the strategic planning and operations of my life and without having to think of what’s next. I believe in planning ahead not so I don’t have to think, but so I can think about what I am doing while I am doing said action. This allows me to have greater focus on my exercise, and also the act of not planning for a bit helps me be able to return to planning with a fresh outlook.
What types of clients are you passionate about helping?
I am passionate about helping people who are looking to take back the reins of their health. Clients who are receptive to the whole picture of health and wellness, and are willing to make the little adjustments to their habits that will change their health trajectory tremendously.
Why are you so passionate about serving others?
I am passionate about helping others because I have received so much help along my journey of health and wellness, and I would like to do the same for others. I have had many mentors from Physical Education teachers, coaches, counselors, personal trainers, physical therapists, and nutritionists, who have helped me a great deal. All these people passionately served and enabled me to make the changes I needed to make to improve my health. I feel as though it is now my responsibility to do the same for others because I so greatly appreciate the service I had, and know how meaningful it is to someone who has needed the support and planning.
What struggles have you overcome to get to where you currently are?
Some of my struggles that I have had to overcome are perspective, habits, and Lyme Disease. At one point in time I had accepted being “the funny fat kid”, but deep down I really did not want to be that guy I made myself out to be. I made fun of myself because it made it seem like I didn’t care about who I really was. Truly, I just didn’t know at that time in my life how to get out of the position I was currently living in. Another one of my struggles, and one that most people deal with, was understanding bad habits. With this came learning and experimenting with ways to develop new healthy habits. My kryptonite is my Lyme disease, and truly if my eating is not managed and I eat junk foods I become very fatigued. My Lyme is both a blessing and a curse because I have learned so much from the disease; about different foods and stressors that cause inflammatory responses in the body which is where the issue arises.
What life events or experiences have prepared you to be in the position you’re in right now?
With hard work and determination, I was fortunate enough to find my way out of the unhealthy situation in which I grew up. Along my journey, I was blessed to work for a premiere fitness club where I worked for six years. Here I learned many things while working with various clients and was able to help many people change their lives physically and mentally. I learned while working with mostly office workers, that there is a great need for exercises directed towards posture and correcting imbalances that occur from sitting all day (at a desk). These exercises that I taught them, along with nutrition coaching, and generally incorporating more walking and/or various other forms of cardio vascular exercise is essential to achieve great health and wellness.
